History

Born and bred in Scotland, I have always had a keen interest in the outdoors and gardening and bowling in particular. This led me to following a career in landscaping and greenkeeping, which of course led me into bowling, which has been a most enjoyable and moderately successful hobby for the past thirty years or more. I also was President of Queensferry Bowling club for two years and still on various committees to this day. My love of bowling shows in the care I take of all my greens as I know exactly what you bowlers want - flat even surfaces, which ‘glide’ and this is what I endeavour to do.

My career started in 1972 when I went to work for Queensferry Council Parks department, which included training at Elmwood Agricultural College in Cupar, Fife for five years. I continued working with the council for a further six years, until they merged with Edinburgh Council and restructured. At that time, I decide to move to be the head groundsman at Bells of Broxburn, maintaining the gardens, ground and pathways, for nine years, until they closed. I then went back to greenkeeping with an Edinburgh Company who looked after sixty bowling greens in and around Central Scotland. I stayed with them for approximately ten years, and then decided to branch out in 2003 and start up on my own. This has proved to be very successful and my accounts have grown year by year from seven initially to the eighteen I currently maintain. All maintenance is carried out by my own men and never sub-contracted, as that way I can absolutely guarantee the quality of my work.

Rotations of duties are used to ensure I personally visit all of my greens every week throughout the open season, which ensures I know exactly the condition and current requirements to keep each in tip top condition.

Whether you want a quote for a full maintenance programme, green repairs or weekly grass-cutting, give me a call on 07766-666548 and I will arrange to give you a no obligation quote within days.
